offer look at the promo video made with a drone and you will fall in love right away with this
beautiful unexpected and undiscovered Italian region.

to offer without spending a lot.
I know it because I've been living for 23 years in this beautiful region in north-eastern Italy with this difficult and longe name. I work here as an official licensed tourist guide. Perhaps only Friuli sounds more familiar to you? That’s why I called this site www.explorefriuli.com.
Friuli Venezia Giulia is, as I previously wrote, a very good alternative destination in Italy. It lies next to the Austrian and Slovenian border and only 120 km from Venice.
You can fly to the San Marco Airport in Venice or the Airport of Treviso which both are about 120 km. (about 75 miles) from Udine. Also Friuli Venezia Giulia has its own Trieste Airport which is about 40 km. (25 miles) from the capital Trieste but also from Udine.
This is the best Italian region if you want to visit more countries in only one holiday. You can combine Friuli with visiting Austria, Slovenia or even Croatia. And it is close to Venice the beautiful capital of the neighbour region Veneto. You can combine your stay in Friuli, the region that offers it all, to a city strip to Venice.
Below you find all the information you want about the cultural, historical cities divided by province, there are four of them: Udine, Trieste, Gorizia and Pordenone. Check it for yourself and come and see this beautiful region with your own eyes.
Before I forget it ... you want to visit the beautiful cities, museums or monuments with additional explanation of a well prepared and friendly Dutch guide who speaks English fluently and who knows the region as the back of her hand and can tell you all the ins and outs? Book me as your personal guide, I will gladly tell you more about what you can discover here.
What are you waiting for? Come on a holiday to Friuli Venezia Giulia!
Enjoy reading and watching and hopefully I will see you soon......Arrivederci!

Caves
not only above the
ground Friuli is beautiful
Friuli Venezia Giulia is not only nice and interesting above the ground but also underneath! There are many caves, from small to large. Especially in the area of Trieste, here the landscape is made of karst rocks (rich in limestone), also known as il 'Carso'. This ensures that the water easily passes and caves are formed.
The most famous cave is the giant cave, 'la Grotte Gigante "in Sgonico,
near Trieste. The great room is so huge that one jokes that the Dome of St. Peter's church in Rome fits into it. It is even in the Guinness book of records. " Click for more information on the link to go to the site of the cave.
San Daniele
famous for its raw ham but not only....
20 kilometers west of Udine, located on top of one of the hills that form an "amphitheater" around Udine, you will find the village of San Daniele. The village is famous for its raw ham "prosciutto crudo" which has been produced here for centuries using a special way of preparing thanks to the micro-climate. Yet the village is also worth a visit for other reasons. How about the beautiful inside of the little church "Sant'Antonio Abate" containing such beautiful 16th century frescoes that it's called the Sistine Chapel of Friuli. Or visit the oldest public library of this region
"La Guarneriana" containing books starting from the 11th century. For more info, click on this link.
The Alps
go mountainbiking,
hiking and skiing
This region has beautiful mountains. In the north of Friuli Venezia Giulia you will find the Alps and even part of the Dolomites. They are divided into Alpi Giulie (northeast) and Alpi Carniche (north) and Friuli Dolomites (north west). They are the perfect scenery for hiking or mountain biking during all seasons, but especially in the fall when the nature colors itself with spectacular colors. In these mountains you will find two protected natural parks, rich of hiking and biking trails. In the winter you can ski in one of the many ski areas that the region offers and do nothing under for their Austrian competitors. More on that can be read in the chapter 'skiing' on this site. Need more information about the parks then click on the link below.
